In 1959, Dr. Michael Buonocore introduced etching, a process involving the application of acid to the tooth’s surface, making it more porous and facilitating better adhesion of restorations. The Simonsen and Calamia research group then adapted this method for dental treatments, including veneers, in 1982.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By applying acid to the tooth surfaces and using a putty-like bonding resin that seeped into the new tooth grooves, a stronger bond was achieved. This advancement allowed most patients to retain their veneers for several years before needing reattachment, repairs, or replacements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Veneers of Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today, the etching and bonding techniques remain in use for attaching veneers to patients’ teeth. Modern veneers are of higher quality, crafted from dental-grade, stain-resistant porcelain that closely resembles healthy, natural teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the procedure, a thin layer of enamel is removed to ensure a snug fit of the porcelain shell, seamlessly blending with the rest of the smile.
