However, getting veneers requires adjusting to a pretty radical change in your smile. One thing that people worry about is sensitivity. If that\u2019s a concern for you, here\u2019s what you should know about the prospect of developing sensitivity from your veneers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Can Veneers Cause Sensitivity In Theory?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The reason that people tend to be a little bit concerned about the prospect of developing sensitivity when it comes to veneers has to do with the removal of enamel typically associated with the treatment. Veneers are tiny slivers of porcelain, but they\u2019re thick enough that you can\u2019t just place them onto the teeth. It\u2019s necessary to remove a microscopic amount of enamel to make room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This enamel is ordinarily what protects the interior of the tooth, and without it, it\u2019s typical to experience a little bit of sensitivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will Veneers Make My Teeth Sensitive?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thankfully, veneers do a pretty good job of covering up the teeth once the enamel has been removed. They\u2019ll prevent substantial sensitivity in the long term, so you don\u2019t have to worry all that much about discomfort once you\u2019ve adjusted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, there\u2019s typically a little bit of sensitivity while your teeth get adjusted to letting the veneers protect them. This should be temporary, fading after a week or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Deal With Temporary Teeth Sensitivity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the week or so that you\u2019re dealing with sensitive teeth, there are a few things that you can do to make your situation considerably more comfortable. For one, taking over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can be incredibly useful, and should usually be plenty for whatever sensitivity you\u2019re dealing with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You should also try avoiding any of the foods that cause discomfort, anything too hot or too cold, for a few days until you feel a little bit better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
